Agartala, May 11 (FD) In a significant move to enhance electoral transparency and cooperation, a delegation from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), led by General Secretary M.A. Baby, met with officials of the Election Commission of India (ECI) today at the Election House in New Delhi. The consultative meeting is part of the Commission’s ongoing initiative to engage directly with national and state-level political parties.
During the meeting, CPI(M) representatives shared their suggestions and raised various concerns regarding the current electoral framework. Such open discussions have been widely seen as a necessary step to strengthen democratic processes and ensure inclusivity in election administration. The Election Commission’s willingness to hold these sessions reflects a broader commitment to transparency and institutional collaboration.
This meeting follows recent consultations held with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on May 6, 2025, led by party president Kumari Mayawati, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on May 8, 2025, led by party president Jagat Prakash Nadda. These sessions are part of a broader effort by the ECI, which has so far conducted 4,719 all-party meetings.
According to an official statement by the Election Commission, Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) have conducted 40 meetings, District Electoral Officers (DEOs) have held 800, and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) have conducted 3,879 meetings. Over 28,000 political party representatives have participated in these sessions.
Such inclusive initiatives underscore the Election Commission's dedication to strengthening India’s democratic fabric by fostering constructive dialogue with all stakeholders.
